Future Plans

The museum will initially operate on a part time, volunteer basis without compensation. Volunteers will include officers and directors who are advanced in the field of firefighting operations, apparatus, education and more.  As public interest and attendance increases, we will consider the installation of a professional staff to administer assistance in the successful operation of the museum. It is our hope that the Dutchess County Firefighting Museum will grow quickly and expand to the point where salaried staff become both a necessary and affordable option.

Our Mission

To Share and Celebrate the History of Firefighting in Dutchess County, While Providing a Unique Fire Safety Experience.

The mission of the Dutchess County Firefighting Museum is to preserve the history of local firefighting through the collection and preservation of artifacts, documents and photographs. The purpose of the museum is to educate the public about fire safety and the history of firefighting in Dutchess County, from its inception to the present. The experience we will provide to visitors is educational, entertaining and enjoyable.

We appreciate and have obtained the support of many local fire departments. One vital service that we will offer is educating the community on the important roles of these departments.  Thus, the museum will help to generate public interest while encouraging involvement in this type of public service. It is the vision of the Dutchess County Firefighting Museum to present exhibits that are tangible expressions of the history of Dutchess County's many departments. The goal in presenting exhibits is to entertain, educate, and guide the public in the pursuit of new interests. Exhibits will be designed to provide the public with a better understanding of the origins and growth of present communities. These goals are accomplished by using visual aides to shed light on the past and present experiences in the community.

It is our plan to provide an education foundation for instruction of school age children beginning in the grade school level. The primary focus of our educational programs is to provide participants with a better understanding of fire safety and prevention, and how it affects daily lives.
